Camiguin Travel Guide: Tourist Spots, Activities, and Tips
It’s been more than a decade since I first set foot in Camiguin, and returning to this island was nothing short of surreal. Back then, I traveled with friends and we only had 24 hours to squeeze in as much as we could. It left me with the feeling that I barely scratched the surface of what the island had to offer. This time, I dedicated a full week to exploring. And I’m glad I did. With more time, I was able to truly enjoy Camiguin’s tourist spots and activities without rushing. In this Camiguin travel guide, I’ll share the best attractions, experiences, and tips to help you make the most out of your visit to this beautiful island.
Camiguin Island, often called the “Island Born of Fire,” is a small yet breathtaking destination in Northern Mindanao, Philippines. Known for its volcanic landscapes, hot and cold springs, white sand beaches, and rich cultural heritage, Camiguin offers a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Despite being one of the country’s smallest provinces, it’s packed with natural wonders and unique attractions that make it a must-visit for travelers.
How to get to Camiguin?
There are several ways to get to Camiguin Island. You can take a direct flight to Camiguin Airport from Cebu for the quickest option, or fly to Cagayan de Oro and ride a ferry from Balingoan Port. Travelers from nearby islands like Bohol can also reach Camiguin by ferry, making the island easy to access whether by air or sea.
For this trip, I decided to go with the most hassle-free route to Camiguin. Instead of dealing with long land and ferry transfers, I booked a flight from Manila to Cebu and then took a short connecting flight straight to Camiguin. It was the quickest and most convenient way to reach the island

Camiguin may be one of the smallest provinces in the Philippines, but it’s filled with stunning landscapes, exciting attractions, and experiences you won’t forget. Spending a week on the island gave me the perfect chance to unwind, slow down, and explore some of its most popular spots. This Camiguin travel guide will give you an idea of how easy it is to get around and make the most of your stay.
Getting around Camiguin is pretty simple. You can rent a car or motorbike, hire a mini jeepney with a driver, or join a group or private tour through local travel agencies. If you’re planning to visit the nearby islands, just head to the designated ports where you can rent a boat. And if you’re staying at UNWND Resort, they even have their own speedboat available for rent. It’s perfect for a more convenient and private trip. Since I was traveling solo, I chose to rent a motorbike to explore the mainland. It gave me the freedom to go at my own pace, stop whenever I wanted, and really enjoy the island’s laid-back vibe.
Here are the places I was able to visit during my one week in Camiguin.
Tuasan Falls
This is one of my favorite stops in Camiguin. Tuasan Falls is a peaceful spot surrounded by lush greenery that is perfect for a refreshing swim on a hot day. The best part? It’s very accessible, with no trekking required. Entrance fee is ₱75 per person.
Katibawasan Falls
Another must-visit is Katibawasan Falls. It’s one of the tallest and most popular waterfalls on the island. The cascading water plunges into a natural pool that’s great for cooling off after a day of exploring. It’s only about a 15-minute drive from Mambajao, making it an easy and worthwhile stop. Entrance fee is ₱80 per person.
Sunken Cemetery
This unique and historic site is marked by a giant cross that rises from the sea. It’s a reminder of a town buried by a volcanic eruption long ago. The view at sunset is especially breathtaking. You can admire the cross from the shore for free, or hire a boat for around ₱500 per group to get closer. For a bit more adventure, you can snorkel around the area to see the remnants of the old cemetery.
Ruins of the Old Spanish Church of Bonbon
This is another nice spot to visit in Camiguin. It’s an old stone ruins from a church destroyed by a volcanic eruption in the 1800s. Entrance fee is ₱50 per person.
White Island
A stunning white sandbar surrounded by crystal clear waters, offering a perfect view of Mt. Hibok-Hibok. Getting here is very easy. It only takes about 15 minutes by boat from the White Island Ferry Terminal in Barangay Yumbing. Boat rental costs ₱550 per group, and there’s an entrance fee of ₱50 per person. For the best experience, visit early in the morning or around sunrise when the tide is low and the island is at its most beautiful.
Mantigue Island
A small tropical paradise known for its powdery white sand, crystal-clear waters, and excellent snorkeling spots. This island is also very easy to reach. Just head to Mantigue Island Port in Barangay San Roque in Mahinog, where boats can take you to the island in about 15 minutes. Boat rental costs ₱750 per group, and there’s an entrance fee of ₱75 per person. Whether you’re up for snorkeling, swimming, or simply relaxing by the beach, Mantigue Island is a must-visit in Camiguin.
Mt. Itum Iconic Pine Trees
A scenic spot lined with tall pine trees, perfect for photos and a quick stop. It’s a great place to relax, enjoy the cool breeze, or even have a picnic. You can also pitch a tent to unwind amid the serene mountain setting. Getting here requires a bit of a trek, but the view and tranquility make it well worth the effort.
Katunggan Park
A peaceful mangrove park that offers a relaxing escape surrounded by nature. It’s a great spot to visit after exploring Mantigue Island, perfect for unwinding and enjoying the calm scenery. There’s an entrance fee of ₱30, and you can stroll along the boardwalks while taking in the beauty of the mangroves and the sea.
