Nacpan – Calitang, The Twin Beaches of El Nido

“Wow!”, this is the first word that came out from my mouth when I saw the twin beaches of Nacpan and Calitang in El Nido. The beach is so called twin beaches because the lengthy shoreline is shared by two adjoining baranggay zones in Bucana, Nacpan and Calitang.

The beach is one of the off-the-beaten destinations in El Nido. Unlike other beaches and islands in El Nido, this area is not frequently visited by tourists; thus allowing us to bask in our own piece of paradise.

Getting to Nacpan – Calitang Beach

The beach is part of inland Tour E being offered from different travel agencies in town; which also includes Hot springs and Falls that normally costs PHP 950 per person.

But if it’s only the beach that entice you to visit, then you can rent a tricycle or van to get to the area. A tricycle can fit up to 3 persons which costs for PHP 1,000 round trip or van that can fit up to 12 persons which costs PHP 2,500 round trip. It may also include a visit to Marimegmeg Beach if you want, just tell your driver or tour coordinator.

Since we joined the group of a fellow travel-blogger friend, Brenna, we rented a van to get to Nacpan-Calitang Beach. We were about 9 to 10 persons who shared the van costing us around PHP 250 each for our transportation to the beach, with travel time of an hour to an hour and a half.

The road to the twin beaches is unpaved so be prepared for a rough and dusty ride. Luckily for us, we weren’t able to experience that as we traveled by van, good choice indeed. 😀

Lunch at Kyla’s Cocina
We went to Kyla’s Cocina first, one of the ‘paluto’ nearby the beach, and ordered food for our lunch. The restaurant is a recommendation from Brenna since she’s already been here before; so I bet they cook great tasting food.

Well, they are. We had some sea food for lunch which were really appetizing. I forgot how many plates I had during that lunch as the food are really tasty and delicious.

We paid around PHP 200 each for the food that we had during our lunch. If you’ll be visiting baranggay Bucana for the twin beaches, have your lunch in Kyla’s Cocina and tell Ate Mercy I recommended the place.

The Long Shoreline of Nacpan – Calitang Beach
As soon as we reached the beach area, we couldn’t contain our excitement and started to walk along the shore towards the hill (left side of Calitang Beach) wherein an unobstructed view of twin beaches can be seen.

There’s a path on the hill so don’t worry what trail to follow when you ascend it.

After a a few minutes of climb to the hill, this excellent view of the twin beaches greeted us.

And it feels like a paradise, indeed.

The Calitang Beach is more suitable for swimming while Nacpan Beach is more like of a fishing village.

Not only the shared shoreline can be seen from the top but a 360 degree view of the surrounding.

The view is really awesome, add to that the turquoise clear water that has been inviting us since we arrived.

Scenery like this is perfect for a panoramic shot.

After a long minute of taking photographs, we’ve decided to move down and spent the rest of our time exploring the beach of Calitang.

The sand is fine and the water is clear. For me it may feel that this is the best beach that I’ve been to when I visited the area but then again it could only be due to my excitement. Then I just realized, it isn’t the best one for me (just saying). I noticed that the seabed is grayish when we had a dip and swim. Don’t get me wrong here, I really enjoyed the beach.

The island facing the beach is said to be owned by the famous boxer in the Philippines, Manny Pacquiao.

The beach has a long shoreline that its entirety can be walked for 45 minutes to an hour. Initially, we didn’t plan to walk from side to side of the shoreline but then again we realized we were already here why not make the most out of it.

There are only one or two resorts that I saw as we walked through the beach. I also noticed that some locals spend their time swimming in the right end part of the beach. Well, I must say  this area is a nice choice if you would want to take a dip into the water as the waves are not that strong.

Surprisingly, there’s a cove when we reached the farthest right of the beach. A more serene and peaceful area of Calitang Beach, well almost all parts are peaceful. No one was there aside from us. We took a dip for a couple of minutes to know how the seawater here feels like.

At 4:00 PM we’ve decided to go back to our area. When we reached our area after 45 minutes, we settled our things then boarded our van as we were hurrying for our bus trip to Puerto Princesa City.

After an hour of traveling the road, we reached the town with still few minutes to change our clothes and fix our things. Afterwards, me and Paula hailed a tricycle going to the terminal; the rest of the group were still staying for 2 days in El Nido. At 6:00 PM, the bus left and we were off to the city.

We were saddened by the feeling of leaving El Nido. I really fell in love with El Nido’s stunning beaches and beautiful islands that immediately makes me plan for my next getaway to this lovely place.
