First Stop, Banaue!

It was last year when I did a solo trip to Sagada. I didn’t have any itinerary then, even contact persons in Sagada. I can even remember the time that I was searching about places to go then the next thing I was doing was packing my things. That was an exciting moment. After all, I survived the trip and there I was back in Sagada. But this time I was with sands and Patrick.

Since my route when I went to Sagada before was Manila-Baguio-Sagada, we tried another route this time, which is Manila-Banaue-Sagada.

Day 01: Banaue

Me, sands and Patrick met around 7pm for us to catch the 9.00PM/10.00PM bus trip to Banaue. We have no bus reservations but still we were able to get comfty seats. The travel time was around 9-10 hours. At the bus, we had a little chat first until we dozed off. I was able to sleep for 3-4 hours only, it was cold and freezing inside the bus. At 08.00 AM, we arrived Banaue.

The woman who did some talk at the bus approached us and asked if we want to have a tour at Banaue. We are hesitant at first but the woman told us that even if we go to the Tourist Information Center of Banaue, sya pa din daw ang makakausap namin because she’s a staff there. So, what more can we say then let’s go.

We rode a jeepney that took us to the restaurant near the Banaue Tourist Information Center. Ate told us that we can use the restaurant’s toilet to freshen up. We washed then had our breakfast. So, here’s our first meal after a long bus trip.

Anyways, I have learned from Ate Guide that there are lots of rice terraces in Banaue, I thought there’s only one like on the 1,000 peso bill. I’ve been longing to see the famous rice terraces lalo na nung elementary pa ako habang nagaaral ng sibika at kultura. Anyways, I asked our Ate Guide that we’re just going to have a side trip at Banaue, at least we can see the famous rice terraces. But she told me that it will be a long trip before we can go there so I just asked her to take us wherever is more convenient to us. And here it was, our rice terraces sighting. This was the most convenient to us since the bus going to Bontoc will pass on the viewing deck.

We attempted to go down, but it was a long way to go. We backed off and just took pictures. It was a nice view, indeed. I’ll go back here someday, someday!

At around past 11:00 AM, the mini-bus arrived. We moved. It was a bumpy and thrilling ride. The road was narrow. And from the window you can see how deep the cliff was. Driver must be cautious when driving.

After 2 hours, we arrived at Bontoc. It was already pass lunch time, and we’re hungry. We passed by an eatery first and had our lunch. Afterwards, we took a jeepney going to Sagada. The travel time is 1 hour.
