Buddha’s Surf Resort, a Place to Stay in Siargao

Situated in the middle of the famous Cloud 9 and the central town of General Luna in Siargao, Buddha’s Surf Resort is a great place to stay when visiting the island. With its lawn stood with tropical trees and green surrounding, a stay in the resort offers a laid-back vibe which is a pleasant alternative to a view of the beach and the sound of crashing waves.

Arriving at Buddha’s Surf Resort

It was late morning when we arrived at the resort. After getting off from the habal-habal (motorbike) that we hired from the town proper, Chris, the resort’s manager, welcomed us before we had even set our foot inside the vicinity. That gesture feels like we were not just arriving guests but old friends awaiting to come on his humble abode.

Chris accompanied us to our room, right away. We were given fresh buko juice as welcome drinks. He might have noticed how weary we were after traveling from Surigao through a ferry boat then tricycle and habal-habal from Dapa port to get to the resort. But shortly after seeing our room and our beds for our entire stay, the tiredness had faded. Suddenly, we were torn between island activities and staycation.

Staying at Buddha’s Surf Resort

Buddha’s Surf Resort has 5 rooms available for accommodation which is situated in a two-storey building with its architecture is made use of native materials. The style looks to be a combination of modern and natural design that perfectly gives the resort a more relaxing and exclusive ambiance. The rooms are pretty straightforward and basic. Our room which is a standard room comes with a queen bed and a single bed, air conditioning, private bathroom with hot and cold shower, two-level rack, table and chair, and a flatscreen TV. Our room also has its private balcony with deck chairs perfect for an afternoon nap or a night of social activities with friends.

Room rate per night starts from Php2,200 which is inclusive of breakfast. You can get to choose from pancakes, cereals, bread toast, omelette and rice meal. We had the well favoured breakfast meals from the menu – Filipino breakfast meal that comes with corned beef, rice and a slice of fresh mango and the Surfer’s Breakfast that comes with two eggs, two bread toasts, bacon and a slice of fresh mango.

The resort has its own restaurant that specializes in Thai cuisine. We had tried Pad Thai and Green Chicken curry during one of our dinners. The food absolutely satisfied my cravings for Thai food.

The resort also offers activities such as surfing and stand up paddle boarding lesson, island hopping and island tour. They also have acoustic nights, yoga classes and retreats.

Island activities can be tiring and seeing the resort has two native hammocks which are situated in the garden for guests to use – going back to the resort after a day of island activities has been so easing. This native hammock has been my favourite outdoor spot for three days. I really had restful nap here as I await for my turn to use the shower.

Buddha’s Surf Resort is truly an ideal place to stay for travellers searching for a great island vibes. Comforting ambiance, relaxing atmosphere and laid-back feel are exactly one’s after when going for an island vacation – and indeed the resort has all of these good vibes that one’s desire. Our stay was truly a time off that we’ve been longing for. Days of de-stressing in an island far away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
